NOTES:-
¹ this phrase can also be translated as “whatever I don't care" but I made this fella polite so haha
² pedestrian crossing
³ hitosu futatsu is counting so I translated it to just “the” since it's counting the number of days the two will be together saying hi and bye. I know it didn't convey in translation well but “the” implies their everyday routine of saying hi and bye so I used this particle.
⁴ this line will never be enough in translation!! it's so deep!!
子供のまま / kodomo no mama = as kids or as a child; anticipates death of his friend; his friend died as a child
僕らはただ / boukra wa tada = we were or we are just (children): when this incident happens or when they separate for ever
⁵ again not enough in translation!!
hitosu futatsu is counting which I translated to “the”; the counting is of the number of evenings they spent together that's why disappearing lights. Again anticipating death.
消え / kie = disappear or vanish
灯り = light or counter for lights (hmm understand it this way that when they return home till late the house lights turn off because people sleep early etc).
these disappearing lights could also refer to the many cases of deaths of children on the crossing
⁶ instead of ”see you later” again and again “later later” was much better as he was replaying the encounters in his head; cinematically and trauma wise it fits :') *sobs*
